Burmese National Union (BNU) An Initial Introduction to Our People and International Friends Who We Are We are the Burmese National Union (BNU), an organization committed to building a federal democratic union in which the Bamar people participate as equal partners alongside other ethnic nationalities. Our position is clear: As equal partners—not as rulers. Through power-sharing—not domination. With respect for diversity—not its erasure. What We Aspire To We envision a federal democratic union in which authority derives from the people and is accountable to them—a union that guarantees equality, self-determination, and human rights for individuals and ethnic nationalities. Such a union must be built on equal dialogue and shared power, free from domination by any single ethnic group or organization. It must respect the will of the majority while safeguarding the rights and security of minorities. How We Will Build Together with the People We will listen to the voices, aspirations, and concerns of the Bamar people and work to build representation grounded in their participation and trust. Our work will include civic education on federalism and democracy, public dialogue, and policy research. We will encourage the participation of young people, women, and civil society organizations, and cooperate with other ethnic and democratic forces on the basis of equal partnership. As we share our views, we will also listen respectfully to questions, criticism, and suggestions from the public. We will strive for transparency and accountability in our work. We invite our people and international friends to join this dialogue and contribute to building a future founded on equality, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence. “Only through equality can we unite. Only through unity can we succeed.” Burmese National Union (BNU) This initial introduction summarizes BNU’s approved core positions. It is not a comprehensive policy document.
